Trademark Name Checker ("the Service"), operated by Weijie Zhang ("we," "us," "our"), is a free tool that screens a name against public USPTO trademark records. We designed it to collect as little as possible. This policy explains, in plain language, what we handle and how.
The short version
We don't sell or share the names you search. We don't save your searches to a database. We keep them briefly in memory to return your results and then they age out. That's the posture; the detail is below.
1. What we collect
- The name and options you search. When you run a check, the name you type and any
goods/services class you pick are sent to our server to perform the search. They travel in the
request body, never as a query string in the web address. So that you can bookmark, share,
or navigate back to a result, the name is also kept in the page address after the
#symbol (the "fragment") — and browsers never transmit the part after#to any server, so it does not appear in our web host's request logs, in referral headers to other sites, or in analytics. - Basic technical data. Like most websites, our servers automatically receive standard request information — your IP address, browser/user-agent, and timestamps — as part of normal operation.
- Analytics. The Service currently uses no third-party analytics or advertising trackers. If we add privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics in the future, we will update this policy and will keep the names you search out of any analytics data.
We do not require an account, and we do not ask for your name, email, or payment information to use the Service.
2. Why we use it
- The searched name and class: solely to run your similarity screening and return results.
- Technical data (IP, etc.): to operate the Service, apply rate limits, and prevent abuse or attacks.
- Aggregate usage (if/when analytics is added): only to understand overall usage patterns in aggregate — never to profile individuals or reconstruct who searched what.
3. Retention and minimization
- Searched names are not persisted to our database. They are held only transiently — in an in-memory results cache (roughly a few hours) so repeat lookups are fast — and are not written to long-term storage. When the cache entry expires or the service restarts, they are gone.
- Server logs may transiently record technical request data (such as IP and timestamp) for operations and abuse prevention; these are kept for a short period and rotated/deleted on a routine cycle. They do not record the name you searched.
- On your own device, the name remains in your browser's address bar and history until you clear it, the same as any page you visit. If you are screening a confidential name on a shared computer, use a private/incognito window.
- We do not build user profiles and we do not link searches to identities.
4. How we share it
- We do not sell, rent, or share the names you search. Full stop — not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to any "trending names" feature.
- Service providers (processors). The Service runs on infrastructure we use to host and deliver it: Google Cloud Platform (application and database hosting), Vercel (website delivery), and Cloudflare (domain name service, and the encrypted connection between the website and our application — which means it handles requests, including the name you search, in transit). These providers process data only to run the Service on our behalf, subject to their own terms and security.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of the Service or others.
5. Your choices and rights
- Nothing to delete, usually. Because we don't keep your searches, there is normally no stored search history to remove.
- Requests and questions. To ask about the data we hold or to request deletion of anything associated with you, contact us at privacy@trademarknamechecker.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
- CCPA / GDPR. We aim to honor the core rights these laws provide (such as access and deletion). Because we collect minimal data, hold no accounts, and do not sell personal information, most of their machinery does not apply — but if you are a California or EU/UK resident and have a request, email us and we will address it.
6. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; changes are reflected by the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be noted on the Service.
